Everyone’s got their reasons for loving the festive holiday of Thanksgiving, whether it is the binge-watching of football all day long or being completely thankful for the people surrounding the dinner table that night.

But for a lot of people, including country stars, there’s one thing about Thanksgiving unlike any other holiday that gets their blood pumping and their heart racing: food.

Stuffing your face on that special day is a requirement and there always seems to be plenty of dishes laid out on the table to feast on. Turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, the list goes on and on until tummies are full. Some of the biggest country artists tapped into their appetites and let their fans know what they like cooking up on the big day.

Mickey Guyton doesn’t mess around and heads straight for the sweets when she piles her plate up with her Thanksgiving meal. That means any and all desserts will end up on her plate, and Guyton feels no remorse whatsoever for the sugar rush she experiences.

“My favorite Thanksgiving dish that has to, has to, has to be at Thanksgiving dinner is dessert,” she explained. “Dessert is my favorite Thanksgiving dish. I mean, it doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it’s sweet. My mom actually makes an Italian cream cake that’s absolutely awesome. It’s homemade, and the entire family, that’s the first thing to go at Thanksgiving dinner. And my Grandma D, she makes a pecan pie that is awesome. She taught me how to make them when I was little, and I just love them, and that’s the other thing that I look forward to at Thanksgiving dinner, and I love them both so much!”

Keeping with the sweet theme, Hillary Scott from Lady Antebellum finds her love within her grandmother’s homemade sweet potato casserole. She seems to think it’s all due to a secret ingredient that her grandma adds in to give it the sentimental kick the dish needs.

“So, my favorite Thanksgiving food would have to be my grandmother’s sweet potato casserole. There’s just something she puts in it — probably all the love – that makes it better than anything I’ve ever tasted,” Scott explained recently.

Being around family during the holiday does mean all of the homemade food that artists miss from their parents while out on the road. When Clare Dunn heads back to Colorado for the feast, she pulls up a seat for her mother’s potatoes alone.

“I think my favorite Thanksgiving dish [is] my mom makes the best mashed potatoes in the world. I mean, they’re crazy. They’re like garlic and butter and all the good stuff, so that’s probably my favorite Thanksgiving dish. Oh, and she makes great stuffing too, and I’m not a stuffing person, but I like hers,” said Dunn.

David Nail remembers getting a little cheesy about the dish that defined his Thanksgivings growing up, and he even still savors the thought of the simple food.

“My favorite Thanksgiving dish was my grandmother’s macaroni and cheese,” Nail explained. “There probably wasn’t anything elaborate about it. It was probably the cheapest macaroni and cheese that money can buy, but for some reason it was always extra special, and she would also add extra cheese to it for me. My cousin Matt and I would have many, many fights about who would get the last spoonful.”
