Five Country Singers Who Have Music in Their Blood

Music seems to be a talent that can be handed down generation after generation or grow like weeds among siblings. Having country music in your blood has a lot of benefits, chiefly because you always have someone who can relate to the wild and crazy life of living on the road. There are some obvious connections, we all know that Hank Williams, Jr., is the son of the country icon Hank Williams, but here’s a list of some artists you may not have known are related.

Charles Kelley and Josh Kelley

Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley and Josh Kelley are arguably the Hemsworths of the music industry. They’re talented and good-looking. However, odds are neither of them ever dated Miley Cyrus, so that may be where the comparison ends. Charles has broken records with Lady Antebellum and recently earned a Grammy nomination for his first solo project, while Josh has had success in the pop rock world and even recorded a country album.

Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle

Loretta Lynn was already a superstar when her little sister, Crystal Gayle, recorded her first album. Lynn even penned Gayle’s first single “I’ve Cried (The Blue Right Out of My Eyes).” But it didn’t take long for Gayle to make a name for herself in country music history. During the course of her career, Gayle secured 20 No. 1 hits and more than six gold album, as certified by the RIAA. Lynn, of course, is a living country legend with more than 30 million records sold.

Toby Keith, Krystal

Krystal Keith and Toby Keith

Toby Keith thinks he should’ve been a cowboy, but his daughter didn’t get the memo. Keith’s daughter Krystal decided to follow in her father’s footsteps and hasn’t looked back. She made her debut in 2004 at the CMA Awards when she sang “Mockingbird” with her dad. In 2013, Krystal Keith debuted her first single “Daddy Dance With Me,” which she wrote and surprised her father with at her own wedding. Over the course of his career, Keith has sold more than 40 million records worldwide, headed the record label Show Dog and launched numerous other ventures including the Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill chain of restaurants.

Chase Bryant and Jimmy Bryant

Chase Bryant has several musical connections. His grandfather, Jimmy Bryant, played keys in Roy Orbison’s The Wink Westerners and the Teen Kings. His uncles Jeff and Junior Bryant are two of the founding members of Ricochet. Ricochet is best known for its 1996 No. 1 hit “Daddy’s Money,” which you can hear Chase perform with his uncle Jeff here.

Thomas Rhett and Rhett Akins

Thomas Rhett grew up in country music with his father, Rhett Akins, working as an artists and songwriter. Akins had his first No. 1 in 1996 with “Don’t Get Me Started” and went on to have a lucrative songwriting career. It obviously made an impression as Rhett was already topping the charts at 23. Akins even co-wrote “It Goes Like This,” which turned out to be his son’s first single.
