Girl Scout Cookies: A Very (Un)Scientific Ranking
Girl Scout Cookies

Forget the holidays—the real most wonderful time of the year is when the Girl Scouts head back out selling their magical cookies door to door. Yep, Girl Scout Cookie Season has finally come back around and we’re ready to gain all the weight while feasting away on tray after tray.

But even though people tend to shower the love toward all of the Girl Scout Cookie flavors in general, it’s truly not an equal adoration. Yes, we said it—some cookies are simply much better than others. Don’t roll your eyes now, you know it’s true.

Although we may not be professional cookie connoisseurs for a living (hence the title of this post), Sounds Like Nashville definitely knows our way around sweets and that is certification enough to rank what’s good and what’s just eh. What’s fair is fair though, it’s all about what makes the cookie crumble.

Here is our definitive ranking of Girl Scout Cookie flavors, from worst to best:

  1. Thanks-A-Lots

Now this could sound like iffy reasoning, but stick with us: we’ve never even heard of Thanks-A-Lots. Apparently they’re like shortbread cookies with some fudge on the bottom? Nevertheless, if they aren’t a household name as a Girl Scout Cookie, they automatically get downgraded big time. Thanks-A-Lot? More like no thanks…a lot.

  1. Toffee-tastics*

Refer back to the ruling from No. 12. Although Toffee-tastics sounds like a new flavor to us as well even though it actually has been around, we give this one points for being creative with its toffee flavoring and gluten-free ingredients. Nothing wrong with a cookie that everyone, and we mean everyone, can enjoy.

  1. Lemonades

Lemon cookies in general are a hit-or-miss ordeal. Although we definitely could finish a sleeve of these bad boys, it seems like more of a fresh, summery cookie. Besides, it’s still considered a dessert and it’s got fruit in it. For all of you out there thinking fruit is a suitable dessert, you thought wrong. Sorry, not sorry, Lemonades. Even Beyoncé can’t help you with this one.

  1. Trios*

Peanut butter, chocolate chips and oatmeal? What could go wrong! Here’s what: these (similar to Toffee-tastics) aren’t available in all regions at the moment because they’re being tested on their popularity. But just the thought of those three major keys in one cookie are enough to swoop it up to the middle of the road.

  1. Shortbreads

We’ve all heard it complained about before: shortbread cookies are BORING. It’s hard to disagree with that statement, but these Girl Scout cookies are classics that are necessary in every pantry when the year rolls around. They go good with milk, you can dip them in chocolate (note: Thanks-A-Lots) and they cause less guilt when you eat fifty of them because they don’t have all the pizazz of other options. Score!

  1. Savannah Smiles

Savannah Smiles make us smile with their sweet yet tangy flavors from the mixture of lemon zest with powdered sugar. Although these treats remind us once again of the horrid winter weather at the moment and make us wish it was warm, they add just enough happiness to take the No. 7 spot.

  1. Do-si-dos

Don’t deny the fact that peanut butter is addicting. Stick it in between two unbelievably sweet oatmeal-infused and you’ve got one texture-filled cookie on your hands! Do-si-dos are another great sandwich cookie to dunk in a big glass of cold milk to end the day on a high note, and possibly make you want to do-si-do. (Ok, please don’t do that—it’d be weird.)

  1. S’mores (sandwich cookie)

Drumroll please for one of the newest additions to the Girl Scout Cookie family: the s’mores cookie! This sandwich cookie version of the classic American camping staple is double-stuffed with a layer of marshmallowy goodness and a chocolate spread pressed between, of course, two graham cracker-style cookies. Our mouths are drooling imagining the possibilities of munching on these yummy delights while sipping on a cup of hot cocoa. Mmm winter!

  1. Tagalongs

Also known as Peanut Butter Patties to some, these rank higher than their Do-si-do cousins for one reason alone: they are chocolate-covered. We repeat chocolate-covered. Plus, it always seems like these have a little bit more peanut butter filled in them. Need we say more?

  1. S’mores (chocolate-covered)

What did we just say about chocolate-covered? Hello, it makes everything better! While these S’mores cookies may be new to the game of Girl Scouts, we think these ones in particular are about to blow all of the other flavors out of the water (or milk, whatever you fancy) with its reverse s’more approach. Graham and marshmallow on the inside, chocolate on the outside, delicious overall.

  1. Samoas

Ah, Samoas. Your caramel-coconut goodness makes our heart swell with every gooey, flaky bite. People love this kind so much, they even made an ice cream based off its scrumptious flavors. And we don’t blame them—Samoas hold true to the hearts of fans across the nation awaiting a box of these when the season comes back around.

  1. Thin Mints

When people think of Girl Scout Cookies, they think of Thin Mints. It’s inevitable. The pair just goes hand-in-hand. Whether or not they’re a favorite in your household, you know you buy about six boxes of them every time you pass a Girl Scout stand just for the look of having that little gorgeous green box tucked up in that pantry (or the freezer!). Their minty, dark chocolate goodness makes us cry in the best ways possible throughout every crunchy bite and we thank this great organization for creating such an amazing dessert every single day. God bless Girl Scouts, and God bless Thin Mints.

*Note: not all regions have these cookie varieties available for purchase.
