International Women’s Day: 10 Country Women We Love

Who runs the world? Girls. What better way to celebrate than honoring all women on International Women’s Day.

Ever since the early 1900’s, International Women’s Day has been observed on March 8 to pay tribute to all of the social, political and cultural achievements that women have conquered around the world. With that being said, here are 10 strong country ladies we want to give our love to (for a multitude of reasons) on this special and important day. Check them out and share your favorite country girl for #Internationalwomensday!

1. Miranda Lambert, for her love of animals

Miranda Lambert can’t get enough of her animals! (She has seven dogs and five cats, plus some horses and pigs.) The animal lover even started MuttNation Foundation in 2009 with her mom to provide help and care for neglected or homeless pets. Two paws up for all her hard works, please!

Dolly Parton.jpg

 2. Dolly Parton, for her dedication to education

Dolly, we will always love you because you stand up for the power of education. Parton started the Dollywood Foundation in 1996 and the organization oversees her Imagination Library, which distributes free children’s books around the world to encourage all kids to read more. Well, howdy to that!

 3. Reba McEntire, for her killer career

She sings. She acts. She’s created her own legacy. How’s that for a queen of country? Holding some of the highest accolades, like being the only female country artist to have two No. 1 singles in each of the past four decades and holding the record for the most American Music Awards for Favorite Country Female Artist proves Reba’s rightly earned place on the top.

 4. Martina McBride, for her devotion to cancer research

Time and time again, Martina McBride has stepped up to the plate to be the face of many cancer-fighting campaigns. Most recently, she announced her partnership with the Hospital Corporation of America for Band Against Cancer through the Sarah Cannon Tour. Lending her voice and her time to millions of people leaves an amazing mark upon the hearts of those affected.

Faith HIll.jpg

 5. Faith Hill, for being the best mom ever

For those who know, being a mom is a full-time job. It takes so much hard work and dedicated time to raise a family. Faith Hill makes motherhood look easy by balancing her country career with taking care of her and Tim McGraw’s three teenage daughters. All the while, she still shows up to every red carpet looking fabulous and flawless.

Shania Twain.jpg

 6. Shania Twain, for her work with underprivileged children

After reflecting on the struggles she faced through her own childhood, Shania Twain always wanted to give back to the kids who experience the same discomforts she did. Through her creation of the Shania Kids Can Charity Foundation, Twain gives guidance and support to kids at underprivileged schools to lead them on the right track for a happy, healthy future.

Carrie Underwood .jpg

7. Carrie Underwood, for her attachment to helping her hometown

Carrie Underwood is quite literally the definition of a small town girl. Hailing from Checotah, Oklahoma, she learned how important community is when you need support to get by. (The population of this tiny spot on the map? Around 3, 300 people total!) Founded in 2009, Underwood created Checotah Animal, Town and School, or C.A.T.S., to assist with various needs within the city limits. Home is definitely what you make it, or at least in Underwood’s eyes it is!

HIllary Scott.jpg

 8. Hillary Scott, for her band’s work with children’s hospitals

From the start, Hillary Scott and the guys of Lady Antebellum made charitable causes their mission. In a philanthropic effort to help kids get the care and comfort they need in different hospitals, the band created LadyAid to better the lives of those with critical illnesses. Teaming up with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Children’s Miracle Network, Scott and the group have raised awareness for the hospitals as well as hope for the patients and their families.

Kacey Musgraves.jpg

 9. Kacey Musgraves, for changing the game in country music

Taking the musical elements of the past and blending them with the non-traditional ideas of now, Kacey Musgraves recreated the vibe of country music. From one of her many stand-out singles, “Merry Go Round,” to her perspective-filled lyrics on her album, Pageant Material, Musgraves made a name for herself by just speaking the truth and following her arrow. Besides, how could you not think a girl with turquoise light-up cowboy boots was cool?!

Jana Kramer.jpg

10. Jana Kramer, for spreading the love

Jana Kramer is known for having a big heart. Whether it be loving her new baby girl or connecting with her fans, she always sprinkles around a little bit of joy everywhere she goes. When her song, “Love,” came out, she took her kindness to a small village in Honduras to film the music video and let the love run wild with the children there. What a beautiful person to spread some cheer.
