Blake Shelton came out on top when he won the award for Male Video of the Year for “I’ll Name the Dogs” at the 2018 CMT Music Awards.

As Shelton entered the stage, he jokingly grabbed the award from presenter Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus’ hands and planted a kiss on Joe Don Rooney’ face for a silly selfie before thanking fans for the award.

“I did not literally expect this tonight. I don’t know what to say,” he said thanking the video’s director Adam Rothlein, along with his label Warner Brothers Records. “I can’t even believe I’m in this category. This new group of country artists coming up are unbelievable, I don’t even know why I’m in here. I’m so excited that people voted.”

The superstar also drew attention to his costars in the video, particularly guitarist Jimmy Olander. “There’s a guy in the video you kids need to learn about, his name is Jimmy Olander, he’s a lead guitar player in Diamond Rio. He played the guitar solo. So thank you guys so much and thank you to Rascal Flatts for absolutely nothing,” he joked.

Shelton has had a busy year and definitely earned his win tonight! Between coaching duties on The Voice, the “Turnin’ Me On” singer managed to squeeze in a cross-country tour with the 2018 Country Music Freaks Tour, scored another No. 1 single with “I’ll Name the Dogs” and opened his Ole Red Bar in downtown Nashville, with another one on the way in 2019 in Gatlinburg.

Other nominees included Dustin Lynch’s “Small Town Boy”, Jason Aldean’s “You Make It Easy”, Jon Pardi’s “Heartache On The Dance Floor”, Luke Bryan’s “Light It Up” and Thomas Rhett’s “Marry Me”.

The 2018 CMT Music Awards were hosted by Little Big Town, and aired live from the Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville.
