While Young used his deep voice to convey the emotion in the Christmas carol, Paisley jammed out and added a little electric guitar flair to the track.

Chris Young and Brad Paisley may have different sounds when it comes to their takes on country music, but the two teamed up to combine their styles for a holiday duet on the Christmas classic, “The First Noel,” during the CMA Country Christmas special.

Taking the yuletide lullaby and mixing together their high and low harmonies, Young and Paisley channeled the depth of the holiday lyric while celebrating the message with their strong connection between each other’s ranges. Even Paisley brought out his electric guitar to put a little bit of a rock sound on the performance track to spice up the original arrangement.

As a fan and a friend of Paisley’s, Young was beyond thrilled when his fellow country artist decided to come out and take on the challenge of chiming in with the Christmas carol.

“Paisley flew in for this and I thank him very much for doing that. It’s gonna be a lot of fun tonight,” said Young to Sounds Like Nashville  and other media outlets recently. “Anytime you do something live, it’s going to be a little bit different, and that’s part of the magic of it. But being able to have Brad here and the two of us on stage, him playing guitar, that’s obviously the core of that and really, that song would not have been the same if I had sent it to him and he’d been like ‘alright, I’m going to sing a couple lines and send it back.’”

Giving each other a fist bump to show their supportive friendship as the audience gave the two a rousing round of applause, the performance went off without a hitch while instilling the joy of Christmas within everyone’s heart.

Young recently released a Christmas album for the season called It Must Be Christmas. Fans can purchase the album in stores and online now.
