Country Music’s ‘New Faces’ Shine At CRS Showcase

The 2016 Country Radio Seminar (CRS) closed on Wednesday night with a showcase that included some of the genre’s hottest new talent.

Cam, Brothers Osborne, Kelsea Ballerini, Old Dominion, and Chris Janson were named this year’s “New Faces,” and had the chance to perform for hundreds of industry members on the final night of the seminar.  As CRS attendees wined and dined, these five talented newcomers were given the opportunity to prove why they’re the format’s biggest and brightest new stars, and that’s exactly what they did.

Cam kicked off the evening with “Untamed,” the vivacious title track of her recently released major label debut album. Her set also included her new single, “Mayday,” and the GRAMMY nominated “Burning House,” a song that undoubtedly changed her life. Cam was well-received by the audience (but let’s be honest: you cannot deny her talent or charm!).

Brothers Osborne followed. Although they admitted this was one of the most nerve-wracking shows they have ever been a part of, John and TJ did not disappoint. Performing songs from their just-released album, Pawn Shop, John and TJ Osborne definitely proved worthy of the New Faces honor.

Taking the stage in a metallic gold romper and over-the-knee boots, Kelsea Ballerini captivated the industry-filled crowd with her infectious personality and lyrics. If the past year is any indication of the direction she’s headed, Ballerini has a long (and successful!) career ahead of her.

Old Dominion shined while performing songs from their debut album, Meat and Candy. They opened their set with their new single “Snapback” and closed the their smash hit, “Break Up With Him.” Things really came full circle for the band, who signed to Sony Music Nashville’s RCA imprint at this time just last year.

Chris Janson stole the show, however. The Missouri native had the audience in the palm of his hands from the second he took the stage, and earned not one, but two, standing ovations throughout his performance. Not only did he show off his how well he can entertain a crowd, he also moved the audience with his gratitude and sincerity. “I am so grateful to everybody,” he shared. “Thank you for giving me a shot and for giving me a job. Thank you so much for giving me a career, country radio. Thank you for making my dreams come true.” Janson knocked it out of the park when he sang “Holdin’ Her,” a song he wrote for his wife Kelly. It was by-far the best performance of the night.

Country Radio Seminar was held Monday-Wednesday (Feb. 8-10). The annual event will return to Nashville in 2017 with a brand new class of New Faces.
