Cyndi Lauper Takes a Turn With New Album, ‘Detour’

Cyndi Lauper is taking a turn with her new 11th studio album, Detour.

The GRAMMY, Emmy and Tony-winning singer is putting her very own twist on a dozen classic country songs from the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s. “When I was a really young kid, country music was pop music, so this is what we grew up listening to. These songs are part of some of my earliest memories so it has been an absolute thrill to revisit them,” she said.

Detour includes “Walkin’ After Midnight” and “I Fall To Pieces,” two Patsy Cline classics that Lauper grew up listening and singing to. “I spent a lot of time in my room singing with Patsy. I had to sing a Patsy Cline song – or two – because her voice was like one of my girlfriends. That’s how close I felt to her.”

The album will feature appearances from several country music stars including Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss and Willie Nelson. Lauper also put Jewel’s yodeling skills to the test on “I Want To Be A Cowboy’s Sweetheart.”
