Dierks Bentley Releases Elle King Duet, ‘Different for Girls,’ as New Single
Dierks Bentley's new single, "Different for Girls," is a duet with pop singer Elle King and comes off his new record, Black.
Dierks Bentley is showing some love for the ladies with his latest single, “Different for Girls.”
The track comes off his upcoming album, Black, and relates to an unspoken truth many listeners will find themselves attached to. Focusing on empathy rather than shame, the lyric is a complete game-changer for not just Bentley, but for country music. Instead of ridiculing the real-life insecurities of women everywhere, it sheds light on the harsh realities that flood the mind of a broken-hearted girl.
“Different for Girls” features the help of pop-rock newcomer Elle King for duet vocals, which happened thanks to Bentley’s simple moment of just plain asking her to help him out with the song.
“Well, I love Elle King’s voice,” said Bentley. “I mean she has such a unique voice, and you never know if her voice is going to blend with your voice. I didn’t found out until I went down to the studio in Austin, and right away it was just a really natural sounding blend. Her voice just lifted up this song. The lyrics of this song are pretty strong and her voice on this particular song really takes the song to a whole other level. I really wanted to find a way for her not to just be background vocals. I wanted to find a way to really get her included in the song, so I gave her the second verse and made the song more of a conversation as opposed to just background vocals. And it really, it just took the song to a whole new place.”
Intertwining King’s rich voice with Bentley’s soothing tone, the song shows promise for an easy listen with a powerful message. The track, co-written by Shane McAnally and J.T. Harding, also complements the understanding of Bentley’s role of being the proud father due to the overarching theme the song has toward girls.
Black, due out in stores and on digital distributors tomorrow (5/27), is Bentley’s eighth studio album and has gained a lot of attention leading up to its release. Bentley’s latest single off the record, “Somewhere on a Beach,” climbed up the charts quickly and snagged the singer his 14th No. 1 single.
In honor of the album’s release, Bentley also announced he will open a pop-up shop in the heart of downtown Nashville, where visitors can stop by to listen to the album or pick up some merch. The ‘Black’ pop-up shop will open the day the album releases and will run through the end of CMA Music Festival on June 12.
