Introducing… Smithfield

Meet Smithfield: A new Country duo comprised of Trey Smith and Jennifer Fiedler. With Trey’s rock-influence and Jen’s Country roots, the Texas natives each bring something unique to the table. Together, they are ready to make a name for themselves with their debut single, “Good Ol’ Days,” and self-titled debut EP.

Sounds Like Nashville caught up with Smithfield to chat about their history, the single, EP, and more. Check out our exclusive interview with the duo below.

What brought the two of you together?
Jen: Five years ago, Trey reached out to me on Facebook asking to come over my place and try singing together. He had the original idea of us being a duo. I was super hesitant at first because I was doing my own thin. I knew I had to give it a try since he was a long time family friend and it would be rude if I said no (lol!). Boy am I glad I have a conscious! And I’m so happy he did reach out because from that first time we sang together I knew, and he did too, that there was something really special and unique about the sound and the blend we had together. I haven’t looked back since. In my college apartment, Smithfield was born.

Did you come up with any other band names before landing on Smithfield?
Trey:  Smithfield was actually one of the first names we landed on because of our last names, but being the perfectionists that we are, we kept trying things out for probably a month. We tossed around names like “Last July” and “Ferris Ave.” I’m glad we came back to Smithfield!

Tell us more about your debut single…
Smithfield: “Good Ol Days” is our party anthem. We wanted to kick off our EP with something you can jam to in your car. Memories are some of a person’s most cherished possessions, so we wanted to write a song that celebrated those memories, and also the nights that you will look back on some day and call them the “Good Ol’ Days”.

What sounds can fans expect from the EP?
Smithfield: Fans will love the variety of emotions and sounds on this record. They’re gonna hear more than just a song. They’re gonna hear an experience: Sounds of a Friday night jam with friends, a first love, a wrenching heartbreak, and even a simple truth. It will be a Pop/Rock/Country infused record with serious harmonies.

Who are some of your greatest influences?
Jen: Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes, Carrie Underwood
Trey: Keith Urban, Johnny Rzeznik from Goo Goo Dolls, John Mayer

What’s on your artist bucket list?
Jen: Performing on the Grand Ole Opry is for sure at the top for me, although a lot of No.1 hits and some CMA Awards wouldn’t be low on the totem pole either (lol!).
Trey: My bucket list as an artist would definitely be to play the Houston Rodeo. When I was growing up, that’s where we always used to see some of my favorite Country artists. Also I’d love to win a Grammy.
