It is hard to believe it has been a year-and-a-half since Kelsea Ballerini released her debut album, The First Time. A lot has changed since then, including earning three straight No. 1 singles, launching her first headlining tour and meeting her boyfriend, Australian singer Morgan Evans.

She has so much inspiration to draw from for her follow-up record and during a recent interview prior to a show in Atlanta, she let Sounds Like Nashville in on some of the details.

“I’m working on my next record and I’m really excited about it,” she shares. “It’s cool because I’m just writing about the last two years of my life vs. my whole life up until ‘The First Time,’ so my life’s changed a lot in two years.”

The new project will feature common themes that any young adult goes through. Breakups make its way onto the tracklist accompanied by songs of finding new love along the way.

“Everything is different since then. Like I got out of a relationship, now I’m in a new one,” Ballerini continues. “Just life and normal things that 22-23 year-olds go through. Being able to just write about that has been really fun.”

The 23-year-old has already started sharing hints of new music with her fans. A clip of upcoming track “Roses” can be found on her Instagram and she plays a small selection when performing on stage during her tour.

“There have been people who have had my album for a year-and-a-half now,” she explains. “And just being able to share little clips of stuff I’ve been working on for the people that have had my music for so long and are wanting new stuff has been cool.”

There is currently no release date for her upcoming project. Fans can catch Ballerini on the road as a part of her headlining The First Time tour through December 14.
