To many, Chris Stapleton has the voice of an angel and he’s putting his gorgeously raspy vocals on display with “Broken Halos,” the lead track from his new album.

Stapleton premiered the track during the Tennessee wildfires benefit telethon back in December and fans haven’t forgotten the touching song since he played it live for the show. Keeping with his classic old-school songwriting and cast of guitars, Stapleton shows growth within his artistic pursuit while still remaining the tried and true voice he established his presence on.

Taking a Southern gospel-turned-country approach to the song’s topic, Stapleton breaks through lyrics like, “Seen my share of broken halos / folded wings that used to fly / they’ve all gone wherever they go / broken halos that used to shine,” as the beacon of hope looking over the crowd.

The country singer recently announced that he wasn’t just coming back around for merely one album, but creating two projects for fans to latch on to in the coming months. Separating each release into their own entities, Stapleton plans to release the first volume in May and following that up with another record set to come out later on in the year. “Broken Halos” will be featured on the first half of the project, From A Room: Volume 1, which will be released May 5.
