Mix together the smooth, deep voice of Kane Brown with the light-hearted and powerhouse vocals from Lauren Alaina and you’ve got a smash record called “What Ifs.”

The two blend their talents together on Brown’s third single from his self-titled debut album and create a love song that fights for the aftermath of what could be when the risk of falling in love is taken. Rather than shy away from the consequences that could occur, the lyric revolves around the idea that love is worth the dare and they should just dive right in without the fear burdening down on the future.

Brown describes the track as “a song talking about a relationship, and everybody’s always asking, ‘What if?’  Like, ‘what if this happened,’ ‘what if that happened,’ ‘what if you find somebody else,’ and it’s my most asked-about song on my album, and I hope people enjoy it as much as I think they’re going to enjoy it.”

While the twang in Brown’s voice keeps the country spirit alive throughout the track, it’s obvious that the Dann Huff-Matt McVaney production emphasizes the innovative rock sounds with guitar blaring throughout the love song. But it’s the feature from Alaina that really drives the track to the next level and she’s got her childhood memories with Brown to thank for their collaboration.

“So I grew up with Kane Brown. I’ve known him since we were kids, we went to school together. Actually I was the first person to hear him sing because we were in chorus class and I kinda heard him humming and he never sang in class he’s very shy. I think he’s come a really long way with that but when we were kids he was shy. He’s still pretty shy. Opposite of me, complete opposite of me. And I was like, ‘Can you sing,’ and he was like, ‘I don’t sing in front of people,’ and I was like, ‘Well you’re gonna sing in front of me.’ So after class I made him stay and I told the teacher that I heard him singing and he needed to hear him sing and he sang ‘I Can Only Imagine,’ which is one of my favorite songs of all time. And I remember being like…he had that deep voice in 7th grade I was like what is going on here. So I like to joke and tell people that I’m the reason Kane Brown sings, but I’m obviously not. But he said that in an interview and I thought that was really sweet. But yeah we grew up together so it was just natural…I mean we literally went to the same school so…how crazy is that…that 2 kids from a small town in Georgia both live in Nashville now and have record deals and now we have a song together. I don’t know how that happened. Like that is so…but he said that when I went on American Idol that that really showed him that it could happen. Because people from where I’m from just usually stay there, they don’t really leave. So it was really cool that we both got to do that and we have that song together,” she explained recently.
