If Mickey Guyton isn’t singing the “Heartbreak Song,” her ex-boyfriend certainly is after watching the music video for her latest single. The Texas native gives a bit of sass and flair in the 3-and-a-half minute clip.

“It’s my fun, flirtier side,” Guyton told Entertainment Weekly of the video. “It is such a powerful song and I wanted to be able to express the right emotion in the video… of being empowered and free from a bad relationship. Shane Drake, who directed the video, is so talented at making women look beautiful so not only did I feel glamorous during the shoot but I’m so happy with the final results.”

“My goal is empowerment,” the recently engaged singer said, “showing that women are priceless.”

The song is the follow-up to her spirited single “Better Than You Left Me.” She wrote it after hearing that her ex was bragging about being the subject of her music.

“I went into this writing session and I was like ‘Y’all, I have this song title called Heartbreak Song and I don’t want it to be this like devastating sounding song. So how do we do that,’” she explained previously. “So Mark gets on the guitar and says ‘I ain’t gonna hit you with a Heartbreak Song’ and I was like ‘Um, yes, please! Thank you!’ And then we wrote this song in maybe like two hours and it’s like one of my favorite songs, like ever.”

“Heartbreak Song” will appear on Guyton’s upcoming full-length album, a project she hopes to finish up this winter.
