A lot goes in to putting together a show as big as the 52nd Academy of Country Music Awards. On top of weeks of planning and countless production meetings, the talented artists taking the stage during the live telecast have to be on top on their game before performing in front of thousands watching in the arena and millions watching from the comfort of their homes.

Miranda Lambert and Kelsea Ballerini each had their chance to prepare for their moment in the spotlight and were kind enough to let Sounds Like Nashville in for a little sneak peek of their much-anticipated performances.

After a whirlwind trip to Las Vegas that had her plane diverted to Laughlin, Nevada and left Lambert, her boyfriend Anderson East, and crew to road trip to Vegas, the seven-time ACM Female Vocalist of the Year made her way to the new T-Mobile Arena where she had a chance to rehearse for her very stripped down performance.

“The singer/songwriter in me is very excited about this moment,” the superstar told us, adding, “I’m not a guitar player, but I’m accompanying myself and hoping for the best.”

Lambert is one of the night’s top nominees, with a total of six nods. While she admits that she’s “just glad to be here,” one category that she’s particularly excited to be nominated in is Album of the Year.

“Album always has a special place in my heart, especially this album because I actually had to live through some stuff to get to this album and what it is, some hard stuff, so for people to recognize that, it feels really good,” the Texas native shared, referring to her two-disc project, The Weight of These Wings.

Ballerini, who is nominated alongside Lambert in two categories, will take the stage to perform her latest hit, “Yeah Boy,” during Sunday’s show. The Tennessee native is thrilled to return to the ACM Awards stage where she performed “Peter Pan” for the first time last year.

“That song, for whatever reason, changed everything and I feel like, got to show people a different side of me as an artist and was really, really a special chapter. I think it all kind of started here and it feels good to be back,” she told us with a smile.

Watch the video above for more with Lambert and Ballerini and be sure to tune in to the ACM Awards, broadcasting live from the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 2 (live 8:00-11:00 PM, ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network.
