Zac Brown Band’s new single “My Old Man” has been racing into people’s hearts since its release in early February. The nostalgic tune reminds those who looked up to their fathers about just how important the love of dear ol’ pop truly is.

He was a lion / We were our father’s pride / But I was defiant when he made me walk the line / He knew how to lift me up and when to let me fall / And looking back he always had a plan / My old man,” Brown sings on the track.

Among the many tributes pouring in was one from NASCAR, who honored the relationship between Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his late father, Dale Earnhardt Sr. with a montage of videos from their time on the track together. The clip was released to commemorate the 16th anniversary of the elder Earnhardt’s death. Dale Sr. died from blunt force trauma to the head during the Daytona 500 in 2001. His son, Dale Jr., has continued his legacy as a race car driver before, during and after the passing of his father.

It’s no surprise that the emotional track ties directly to the father-son racing duo as they spent many years together on the speedway.

“My Old Man” is the lead single from Zac Brown Band’s upcoming Welcome Home album, set for release on May 12.
