RaeLynn Explains the Magic Behind Her Album, ‘WildHorse’

Taking several years to make a record was definitely worth the wait for fans of RaeLynn because she got time to lay all of her emotions out on the line throughout the personal track list.

The “Love Triangle” singer recently sat down with the Grand Ole Opry to discuss the genuine hardships she went through to create her debut album, WildHorse, and how she didn’t hold back any part of her personality from song to song. From the sassy highs to the painstaking lows she showcased throughout the record, it all goes back to the dedication she gave to her first full studio project.

“So that’s what makes a debut record so special ‘cause all the magic in different writing rooms that you had, you get to put on your first record,” RaeLynn explained the exclusive clip, premiering on Sounds Like Nashville. “So WildHorse is just, it really shows where I’ve been the last four years and you know, I always think it’s like my college experience. Like I moved here when I was 18 and I finished this record when I was 22. It’s crazy because it goes through every part of my life.”

While RaeLynn opted out of the typical self-titled approach for her first look at sending a record out to the country community, she still wanted something that embodied empowerment and showed her strength throughout the developments over the past four years in her life.

“When it came to titling my record, I didn’t know if I wanted to title it just my name, like everybody just does their name for their first record—their debut record,” she explained. “And I was like, ‘But I think my body of work needs a name.’ I was talking to my mom and she was going through some of my grandmother’s things and she found a poem that my grandmother wrote about her. It was titled ‘WildHorse,’ and it was about how she was the good kind of crazy. When she was reading me this poem, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, how cool would it be if I titled my record WildHorse?’”

WildHorse is available for purchase everywhere now.
