You won’t have a “Silent Night” this holiday season with the release of Rascal Flatts’ new Christmas album, The Greatest Gift of All.

The holly jolly project features 10 Christmas covers, but with a very modern sound. Band member Jay DeMarcus arranged and produced the record, keeping the Flatts’ personality in mind while keeping holiday traditions alive.

“What we wanted to do when we talked about doing a Christmas record was kind of put our own spin on some of our favorite songs.,” DeMarcus shares with Sounds Like Nashville and other entertainment media. “We have kind of a history of being funky and kind of being soulful. When Gary sings a song he can’t help his R&B influences that come out of him. So we want to cater to that as much as possible and we kind of just wanted to have some fun with that. Just a spin on an old classic, that’s the theme we wanted the record to be.”

The album is filled with tracks that will take you back to celebrating Christmas with your own loved ones, such as “Joy to the World,” “O Holy Night” and “Let it Snow.” Mixed in among the classics are two songs, “Strange Way to Save the World” and “Someday at Christmas,” that the band connected with even though they aren’t largely recognized around the holidays.

“’Strange Way To Save the World’ has been one of my favorite Christmas songs forever, since it has been out,” DeMarcus explains about the choice to put that song on the record. “And strangely enough when we were thinking about it, you always get asked to do CMA Country Christmas show and it’s so hard to come up with something somebody hasn’t done before.”

Another feature on the album is the entire band’s children. As a group, they sing a verse on the caroling classic, “Silent Night.” LeVox’s 16-year-old daughter takes after her father and is displayed as the lead vocalist on the family track.
