As his fifth single of his album, Montevallo, Sam Hunt wanted to use his song, “Make You Miss Me,” to make a bold statement for those who tend to get bored quickly in relationships.

“Make You Miss Me” holds the place of a faster-tempo ballad among Hunt’s repertoire, describing the guy’s perspective about making a girl who is uninterested in any sort of relationship desire something more than just an easy fling.

“This sentiment came out of knowing a girl who, and girls in general, that tend to have the personality to be very into something one minute and over it the next, and not really ever having been in a relationship with a guy because she was over before it could get started. This is a song about a guy who says he’s not gonna let that happen. He’s gonna be memorable. He’s gonna make her miss him,” he explained.

Separating itself from the rest of Hunt’s singles, the piano-driven hit is climbing its way to the Top 10 on the country charts. Through the song’s storytelling, Hunt also recognizes the other half of the equation in the relationship as well: the emotional standpoint for the guy.

“The attitude of the singer is a confident one, but there’s also a vulnerability there because he really likes this girl and he misses her, so his only option is to make sure that he’s not forgettable, and he figures out a way to make her miss him,” said Hunt.

Hunt is currently playing shows throughout the summer, hitting some dates along the Spread the Love Tour with Kenny Chesney. Fans can buy the song off his album, Montevallo, on iTunes now.
