Sometimes we need a little reminder to call our loved ones. Seth Ennis grasped this concept when he sat down to write “Call Your Mama” with Michael Hardy. The poignant song encourages listeners to take a moment to call their mother and catch-up

“Call your mama / Sit and listen to her small town drama / And get you all caught up on all your sisters and your brothers / Boy, listen to your mother / ‘Cause you ain’t ever gonna get another / Someone you get to call your mama,” he sings in the chorus.

The 25-year-old wrote the track about his mom after receiving texts that she wanted to speak with him. He and Hardy wrote the song in under half an hour, the fastest Ennis has ever written a song. He decided to unveil it to his mom with the ballad by singing it during a recent tour date in the United Kingdom. Though he sang it as a surprise for his mom, he had no idea that some other ears were in tune to the song.

“A couple weeks after I wrote it, I was in the U.K. opening for Little Big Town,” said Ennis. “My mom ended up coming overseas and surprising me at a show. So I decided to play the song, for the first time, and surprise her. Karen [Fairchild] and Kimberly [Schlapman] were listening backstage and the second I walked off stage they said that I had to play that song in my set for the rest of the tour. The response on the road was so amazing and special that I knew I had to cut the song and put it out.”

Because Karen and Kimberly, along with bandmates Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet, were so instrumental in Ennis recording the song, he asked the quartet to join him in the studio and be a part of the song. Their vocals were recorded just weeks ago during a session at the famed Blackbird Studio in Nashville.

The response to “Call Your Mama” has been overwhelming for the singer, who has received countless messages from fans about how the song has impacted their lives by mending fences and opening up lines of communication.

“I 100 percent believe music can bring healing and move people in a way that nothing else can,” said Ennis. “I already see a movement happening with this song and that is so much bigger than me, and I’m just humbled to be a small part of it.”

Ennis and Little Big Town’s “Call Your Mama” will officially hit country radio on Monday, September 10. It is available for purchase and streaming now.
