Get ready for some good original songwriting, world, because Lori McKenna is releasing a brand new album in July.

The critically-acclaimed songwriter is releasing her own collection of songs for her latest album, The Bird and the Rifle, due out on July 29. The lead single off the record, “Wreck You,” is available for purchase on iTunes.

McKenna has written a plethora of songs for many artists in the Nashville community. She’s been the genius behind hits like Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush,”Raelynn’s “God Made Girls” and Hunter Hayes’ “I Want Crazy.”

A familiar tune from the album’s tracklist is “Humble and Kind,” cut by country music’s very own Tim McGraw. But this time, she wanted to take her songs into her own hands and make a special project that became her labor of love.

“This record was made in a way that’s very different from anything else I’ve ever done,” she said. “It’s very much me––this record and the songs. But it’s like I took the ten songs and just got in someone else’s car and took a ride down the coast.”

Producer Dave Cobb helped out with the making of the album and somewhat helped inspire the direction McKenna wanted to take this time around.

“I really wanted to wanted to work with Lori because of the truth and honesty she carries with her pen. I love her wit and humor and the fact she writes her own songs purely for the sake of art,” said Cobb.

With the release of new material, McKenna is celebrating by taking her act on tour throughout the summer and fall of 2016. Starting out in Vienna, Virginia, and ending up in Los Angeles, she will stop along at wineries and theaters alike.
