Taylor Swift Signs With Universal Music Group, See What She Said About Leaving Long-Time Label Big Machine Records

After months of anticipation Taylor Swift’s new label home has been decided. Fans have anxiously awaited the news of Swift’s next move after it was revealed that her deal with Big Machine Records was coming to a close.
According to Variety Swift will end her longtime partnership with BMLG and Scott Borchetta after signing a new multi-year, multi-album global agreement with Universal Music Group (with Republic Records as her label partner in the U.S.). The label announced the global recording agreement early Monday morning, Nov. 19.
“Few artists in history approach Taylor Swift’s combination of massive global hits and creative brilliance. She is so multi-talented, she can achieve anything,” Lucian Grainge, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group. “I have such enormous respect for Taylor, in particular for her use of her hard-earned influence to promote positive change. Because of her commitment to her fellow artists, not only did she want to partner with a company that understood her creative vision and had the resources and expertise to execute globally on her behalf, she also sought a partner whose approach to artists was aligned with hers. With these shared beliefs, there is so much we can accomplish together, and all of us at UMG are enormously proud to be embarking on the next chapter of her career alongside her.”

Effective immediately, the new deal ensures a deeper bond between Swift and UMG, who distributed her album for Big Machine.
During her time with BMLG, Swift won ten GRAMMYs and is the only artist in history with four albums of sales more than one million copies in the first week of release (2010’s Speak Now, 2012’s Red, 2014’s 1989 and 2017’s Reputation). Swift often credits BMLG founder Borchetta with helping her launch a career. She addressed him in an Instagram post announcing the news.
