Trace Adkins is walking the line between good and bad in his new music video for “Jesus and Jones.”

The video was shot outside of Nashville and follows the singer and a group of friends to church on Sunday morning after a Saturday night out on the town.

“If you just listen to the title of the song, Jesus and Jones, it means basically living somewhere between heaven and hell, I suppose,” music video director, Peter Zavadil said. “So where is someone in between heaven and hell? It’s not the night before, it’s the morning after. So it’s that point where you’re weighing, ‘did I have good times or bad times’ as you’re on your way to church in the morning.”

The video also pays homage to the late George Jones, whose name appears in the song title, and Jones’ song “White Lightning” by featuring footage of the singer. In one scene, Adkins’ friends are seen rolling up to the church on lawnmowers, reminding fans of Jones traveling eight miles by mower to stop at the liquor store after his wife took the car keys.

“This is our first single off a new album that’ll come out later this year. This is a song that’s autobiographical,” Adkins said of the song when it was announced. “The first thing I ever did behind a microphone was singing bass in a gospel quartet. At the same time, I was playing guitar and singing in honky tonks, so, that’s when the struggle began…the wrestling match between ‘Jesus’ and ‘Jones’ and I still struggle with that.”
