It’s been quite awhile since we’ve had new Trace Adkins music, but the wait is now over. The singer is back with “Jesus and Jones,” his first single with BBR Music Group’s Wheelhouse Records.

The song, which talks about walking the fine line between good intentions and temptation, was written by Jim McCormick, Casey Beathard and Tyler Farr.

It that hits close to home for Adkins. “This is our first single off a new album that’ll come out later this year. This is a song that’s autobiographical,” he explained. “The first thing I ever did behind a microphone was singing bass in a gospel quartet. At the same time, I was playing guitar and singing in honky tonks, so, that’s when the struggle began…the wrestling match between ‘Jesus’ and ‘Jones’ and I still struggle with that.”

Expect new music from the Louisiana native later this year. The album will be his first of original music since 2013’s Love Will…, which featured “Watch the World End,” his duet with Colbie Caillat.
