Life became quite the whirlwind for Zach Seabaugh after he joined Season Nine of the hit television reality competition show, The Voice. Getting placed on Team Blake and making his way to the semi-finals changed his life drastically, but for the 17-year-old, he feels as if the move to music full-time wasn’t as hard as it could have been.

“Now that I think about it and people ask me, it was a very guided transition,” Seabaugh explained exclusively to Sounds Like Nashville. “I was thrown in a hotel in LA and all the distractions going on out there—interviews every single day and stuff like that—I really didn’t have time to think and be like, ‘Oh shoot! This isn’t normal.’ I was so busy and I was so caught up in focusing on the competition and stuff. So I think the transition was very smooth and it’s sort of hard to explain. It was just a drastic change.”

With a new self-titled E.P. out, featuring five songs all co-written by Seabaugh, he’s learning to keep normalcy within his hectic schedule. Thankfully, Seabaugh thinks the extended play is relatable for teenagers and connects himself with his fellow high school students, even though he isn’t always around for the typical teen life.

“But with me being 17, I really just wanted to take a bunch of stories that all my buddies tell me and just people around me. And not necessarily personal stories, but just something to relate to. I mean, ‘Nothing Good Happens After Midnight,’ I’m sure that a lot of teenagers can relate with that and even the people that aren’t, they can look back and whether they agree or disagree, you know we all know it’s true,” he said.

With his music, Seabaugh also wanted to show his range in vocals and musical ability to make a bold move with his debut release. While his fans knew his sound from his time on The Voice, he still felt like he needed to make his mark for his first E.P.

“Of all the songs I’ve written over the past couple months, I picked the top five that really were pretty versatile and pretty different because this is the first music that people are gonna hear from me and I wanted to give them a little bit of everything,” said Seabaugh.

Not only did the country newcomer want to make his sound something that everyone could enjoy, but he also fed off inspiration from a few music giants to achieve the feel he wanted.

“I really love Elvis Presley and that’s who I started listening to and started taking his energetic songs and bringing that into my music, but making it a little more modern,” he explained to SLN. “I love the rockabilly feel. My music is so versatile and that’s why this EP…I really wanted to lay it out pretty wide just to see what the fans are gonna like most and then go from there. But I would say Brad Paisley-meets-Hunter Hayes is probably the best way to describe it, I think.”
