17 Best Singles of 2017 (So Far)

We’re officially halfway through 2017 and there has been no shortage of memorable country singles heard on the radio this year. From Lauren Alaina’s first No. 1 song with the empowering “Road Less Traveled” to Sam Hunt’s record-breaking smash “Body Like A Back Road,” there are plenty of tracks to choose from. In fact, it was pretty difficult to narrow down the list!

Here are our favorite 17 songs of 2017 so far:

1. Keith Urban “Blue Ain’t Your Color”

“Blue Ain’t Your Color” is one of the most successful songs of 2017, spending an incredible 12 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. The striking ballad is reminiscent of music from the 1950s with slowed instrumental accompaniment, bluesy guitar interludes and Keith Urban’s memorable singing style — all of which add up to a smash record.

2. Brad Paisley “Today”

Brad Paisley struck a chord once again with the release of “Today.” A man known just as much for his funny songs as his touching ballads, “Today” will no doubt survive the test of time and likely become the wedding song of 2017.

3. Lauren Alaina “Road Less Traveled”

Lauren Alaina saw her first No. 1 earlier this year with the empowering anthem “Road Less Traveled.” With hand-clapped rhythms, foot stomping percussion and her powerful vocals, “Road Less Traveled” had the American Idol alum urging us all to be ourselves and continue marching to the beat of a different drum. “You won’t make yourself a name if you follow the rules / History gets made when you’re actin’ the fool,” she belts.

4. Luke Bryan – “Fast”

A song he co-wrote, the singer looks back on life nostalgically throughout “Fast.” The usual hip-shaking country star shows his soft side on this one and it pays off, marking his 18th career No. 1 single and also making him the only artist to garner six No. 1 singles from an album.

5. Little Big Town – “Better Man”

Little Big Town are well known for their heart-wrenching ballads and their Taylor Swift-penned single “Better Man” exemplifies this talent. A song about a man who did her wrong, Karen Fairchild’s smoky vocals get the song’s point achingly across with the assist from her band mates on harmonies.

6. Sam Hunt – “Body Like A Back Road”

Quite possibly the biggest song of 2017 so far, Sam Hunt continues to break records with the urban flavored “Body Like A Back Road.” The first hint of new music, “Body Like A Back Road” recently surpassed double platinum status and continues its 20-week streak at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. The song’s remarkable success marks the longest time a solo male artist held the top position and is likely only the beginning of Hunt’s record breaking career.

7. Luke Combs – “Hurricane”

Luke Combs saw his first chart success with his No. 1 single “Hurricane.” The North Carolina native co-wrote the song, which vividly compares an ex to a hurricane that he can’t seem to avoid. “Rain was driving, thunder, lightning / You wrecked my whole world when you came / And hit me like a hurricane,” he sings.

8. Miranda Lambert – “Tin Man”

Miranda Lambert openly shares her heartache on “Tin Man.” The song has her advising the Tin Man that he shouldn’t want a heart, but if he does she’ll gladly trade her broken one for his armor. The stripped down song is the most vulnerable single she’s released in years with memorable lyrics that stay with the listener long after the song is played.

9. Eric Church – “Kill A Word”

A song with added weight given the current political climate, “Kill A Word” has Eric Church sharing how he wishes to erase words like “fear,” “hate” and “heartbreak” from the world. A song that begs to be heard, turn off the news and turn this one up.

10. Josh Turner – “Hometown Girl”

Josh Turner had a huge return in 2017, notching his first No. 1 song in seven years with “Hometown Girl.” The sweet ballad showcases Turner’s familiar baritone as he sings of the girl next door who can hang with the boys and never forgets her roots.

11. Lady Antebellum – “You Look Good”

“You Look Good” is Lady Antebellum’s fiery lead single off their latest album Heart Break and features a horn section, pushing the band in a new direction musically. After a much needed break, the trio launched into 2017 with this fun single that begs to be danced to.

12. Brothers Osborne – “It Aint’ My Fault”

On the gritty “It Ain’t My Fault,” Brothers Osborne’s musicianship is fully displayed with thumping drums and hand-clapped rhythms. All the while, TJ’s voice blends impeccably with John’s always impressive guitar shredding. It’s a rollicking track that should be listened to on repeat.

13. Maren Morris – “I Could Use A Love Song”

“I Could Use a Love Song” is a brutally honest track that has Maren Morris trying her best not to be jaded about love. “I haven’t lost all hope yet,” she sings. A welcomed song on country radio that makes the listener feel, “I Could Use A Love Song” is one of the most heartfelt singles out this year.

14. RaeLynn – “Love Triangle”

RaeLynn pulls on the heartstrings with her poignant single “Love Triangle,” which details a young girl stuck in the middle of her parents’ divorce. Something the singer experienced firsthand, she penned the song with Nicolle Galyon and Jimmy Robbins, and it is her vulnerability and honesty that leaves the greatest mark on the listener.

15. Jon Pardi – “Dirt On My Boots”

Jon Pardi is bringing the traditional back to mainstream country music and no song better showcases this than “Dirt On My Boots.” A mix of old and new, the distinct music combined with Pardi’s captivating singing style makes it nearly impossible not to tap your boots along to the song.

16. Brett Young - “In Case You Didn’t Know”

Brett Young followed the success of his first No. 1 hit “Sleep Without You” with another chart-topper thanks to “In Case You Didn’t Know.” Throughout the song, Young sings of all the things he’s been feeling for a girl but can’t quite put into words. Luckily for his lady, he can serenade her instead.

17. Florida Georgia Line feat. Backstreet Boys – “God, Your Mama, And Me”

A country duo and ’90s boy band may sound like an unlikely collaboration at first — until you hear the song. Florida Georgia Line teamed up with the Backstreet Boys for “God, Your Mama, And Me” and the song quickly became the boy band’s first No. 1 at country radio. An ode to all the females in their lives, “God, Your Mama, And Me” blends the spot-on harmonies BSB are known for with the genre-bending duo for a truly unique track.
