The 2016 Billboard Music Awards brought music’s biggest artists together for a star-studded show in Las Vegas last night. Among the performances was Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, who performed their hit “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” from Shelton’s new album If I’m Honest.

The song was written “about some serious insecurities that we had when we first started down this road with each other,” he explained. “We both had trust issues. We were getting over it, but we wrote this song about it, and it’s perfect.”

Shelton admitted on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that it was awkward singing about breaking up while in love. “There were moments when its like, we were singing this song like we’re going to break up. And we’re not breaking up right now,” shared.

The two previously debuted the track on NBC’s The Voice, where they’d both served as coaches.
