Blake Shelton Files Lawsuit Against Tabloid for Defamation

Blake Shelton has surely been through a lot in the past year, but this time he’s taking legal action against the latest roadblock in his life.

Shelton is suing newsstand tabloid InTouch Weekly over reports that he has a serious drinking problem and other accusations of intoxicated behavior. The country singer filed the lawsuit back in October 2015 against the celebrity news magazine’s publisher, Bauer Media, and is asking for $2 million over the story, according to leaked court documents.

In the court documents, Shelton points out eight falsities from the article including claims of going to rehab, having a drinking problem and urinating on a mailbox.

“Not only was I not in rehab or headed to rehab when it was published, but I also do not have a drinking problem,” he states in the filing. “All of this was false and went so far beyond prior stories about me that I had previously denied with humor.”

He also defends honoring his former marriage with Miranda Lambert, clearing himself from any infidelity rumors leading to their split in 2015.

Bauer Media tried to file a motion back in February to rid of the suit by claiming Shelton’s tweets were related to his heavy alcohol use. In return, Shelton claimed the messages were just a part of his fan image and had nothing to do with his actual alcohol use.

While InTouch Weekly declined to comment to Entertainment Tonight when contacted, Shelton is “furious” over having to file the lawsuit altogether.

Meanwhile, Shelton recently hosted the 2016 Kids Choice Awards on Nickelodeon and is continuing along his coaching gig on The Voice, where current girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, is helping as a mentor to his team.
