For more than three years, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have been hot and heavy. The yin-meets-yang duo have never shied away from PDA and often gush about one another in interviews. But over the years, some fans have been baffled but the couple’s differences, and there was a time when even these two lovebirds thought they wouldn’t last very long.

“When I was going through my divorce, I hit rock bottom, just like anybody does when they go through something that devastating. It’s a miracle that I met somebody that was going through the same exact thing that I was at the exact same moment in time,” Shelton told Sunday Today’s Willie Giest. “If Gwen and I were being honest right now, talking about this, I think in the back of our minds we both kind of thought, ‘This is a rebound deal.’”

When they met, Shelton was living through a high-profile divorce from Miranda Lambert, and Stefani was dealing with the end of her own marriage to Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. Both filming NBC’s The Voice at the time, the two sought comfort in one another. That friendly foundation eventually turned romantic.

“But now here we are, going on three years later and every day that goes by it just feels like a stronger bond between the two of us, and it constantly feels like it’s going to the next level,” he shared.

Over the past three years, Shelton has become an integral part in Stefani’s life, including building a strong relationship with her three young sons. The family often spends much of their time at the “I Lived It” singer’s Tishomingo, Oklahoma, farm. And though the couple’s relationship continues to deepen, Shelton admits that there may still be some time before he and Stefani say “I do.”

“I think about it. I don’t think it’s anytime soon or anything,” Shelton told CMT’s Cody Alan previously. “The more time that goes by, I guess, the closer you’d be getting to that.”
