Although Blake Shelton makes the living look easy nowadays, his life was no bed of roses a year ago.

The country singer, who just released his new album If I’m Honest, went through some pretty trying times back in 2015. During his divorce from fellow country artist Miranda Lambert, his mind was in a whole other place that didn’t serve him too well.

“This time last year, there was no light at the end of the tunnel for me personally,” Shelton told People Magazine. “There was a point there where I thought I didn’t even want to exist anymore.”

Things got so dark and hard to handle for Shelton that he went so far to want a long-term escape from all of the press and negative attention he was receiving.

“I told people I wished I could go into a coma and wake up a year from now,” said Shelton of the divorce.

It seems now, though, that Shelton is everywhere and then some. He just wrapped up Season 10 of The Voice and is now focusing on promoting his latest album, If I’m Honest, which released on May 20. He will be heading out on tour with former Voice contestant Raelynn this fall after guest-starring as a pig named Earl in the new animated movie, Angry Birds.
