After a long-fought battle with cancer, Bobby Bones’ dog passed away on Wednesday (3/14) at the age of 14.

Dusty was a long-time companion for Bones, as the two went through many major life changes together. Known to fans as one of the radio host’s closest friends, Bones dreaded the day that Dusty would pass on. Unfortunately, the moment came too soon for Bones and broke his heart right then and there.

“RIP to my main homey for over 14 years. Through all the crazy life changes, this dude was my constant. I loved him dearly. I don’t remember an adult life without my running buddy, shotgun rider and middle of night nut kicker. My house, my bed, and my heart are all a bit emptier. Thank you all for all your kind messages over the last few months. Dusty jumped up into doggie heaven on Wednesday. He’s probably already pee’d everywhere . Peace out dude. 🐶 💯 2003 – 2018,” Bones dedicated to his emotional Instagram photo.

Bones would constantly share updates about Dusty and his trials with cancer. Beating the odds given to him during the first diagnosis, the pup outlived what any doctor assumed he would and didn’t let his older age get to him. Bones stayed by Dusty’s side every step of the way, never wanting to let go of the hope that his furry friend would stick around for the long run.

The next couple months will be a hard transition for Bones after the loss of his pal, but listeners can tune in to his morning radio show to get his thoughts on the matter when shows broadcast through radio next week.
