After being faced with a copyright claim from another singer-songwriter, Brad Paisley and Co. have won the rights to his and Carrie Underwood’s hit song, “Remind Me.”

The lawsuit, filed by Amy Bowen, who goes by the name of Lizza Connor professionally, stated that Paisley and his co-writers, Kellie Lovelace and Chris DuBois, used the similar phrasing as she did in her song, “Remind Me,” back when she wrote it in 2007. The artist sued the team for $10 million on claims that they had taken it from her after hearing it around Nashville some time in 2008.

Judge Aleta Trauger ruled that while the songs both have similar messages within them, Paisley and Underwood’s song differs in a more conversational tone by having two members of a breakup communicating back and forth rather than a one-sided effort.

While trying the case, Paisley testified that although he received help from Lovelace, he ultimately came up with the concept and title on his own. Paisley himself also wrote the melody along with some of the lyrics, standing for his originality plea to begin with.

Trauger came to the final ruling that said, “Because the undisputed facts establish that the allegedly infringing Paisley Work is not substantially similar to the plaintiff’s copyrighted Work, the defendants are entitled to summary judgment in their favor. An appropriate order granting the defendants’ motion is filed herewith.”

The case was originally filed in May of 2013 and finally settled in U.S. District Court in Middle Tennessee. Underwood and Paisley have not yet commented on the status of the ruling.
