Trying to look cool on stage doesn’t always go as planned. Just ask Brad Paisley.

In a recent interview with The Tonight Show for a behind-the-scenes digital clip, the “Last Time For Everything” recalled a show in Charleston where he had a nasty fall while wrapping up the show.

During the final song of the final stop, Paisley was playing his song “Alcohol,” which he ends each show with. Bidding farewell to one side of the crowd, the West Virginia native turned to head to the other side of the stage.

That’s when things went awry.

“There I am on the stage, I’m kind of running across the stage, and we have these ramps on each side. I was sprinting to wave to one side. I had just handed my hat to a little kid in the front row. I’m waving over here and then I take off running to go over to the other side and I’m coming down that ramp. I’m running like I am in the Olympics. My boot catches something on the carpet and I go down. I mean, when I go down, I’m airborne,” he recalled.

Ever the guitar fan, Paisley turned just enough to save his precious instrument, but landed with all of his weight onto his hip.

“I land on the stage with full force and thought, for sure in that instant, with searing pain up my side, I thought, ‘I have broken my hip on the last song of this tour.’”

Paisley was able to stand up, not without a wince, but he finished the song, wishing everyone a good night. Making for a quick exit, he bee-lined it straight to the doors in the middle of the stage and out of sight.

It was after he made it offstage that Paisley was rushed to a local hospital to get an MRI. Thankfully, he was only bruised and suffered no broken bones.

Though the pain was intense, Paisley couldn’t help but want to see footage of his fall and tweeted out to his followers, asking for the clip.

“I was tweeting from the emergency room, ‘alright, who’s got the video? I want to see it, put it up.’ And a guy was really cool about it. He wrote me and said ‘I have the video. If it’s cool, I’ll put it up, but I won’t put it up if you’re embarrassed.’ And I said ‘Oh I’m embarrassed, put it up.’ And he actually put that up. Within minutes, it was online and I was able to see it in all of its glory,” he conceded with a laugh.

Thankfully, Paisley hasn’t suffered any other major incidents during his tours and is able to look back and laugh at the snafu. His latest album, Love and War, is available everywhere now.
