Brad Paisley Starts GoFundMe to Help Victims of Deadly West Virginia Floods
“It’s very important to me that this is done right, that every dollar goes there," said Paisley in a Facebook Live video.
It’s been nearly a week since West Virginia was devastated by severe flooding, leaving more than 20 people dead and hundreds homeless.
As a native of the Mountaineer state, Brad Paisley has been deeply affected by the loss of life and property and has decided to do whatever he can to help.
“As one of the celebrities from our state, I certainly have a responsibility to keep awareness up on this and after carefully kind of considering what would be the best thing to do, what we have decided do is to start a GoFundMe site that will go directly to my foundation, which is distributed by the WESBANCO Trust Department in Wheeling, WV and we can ensure that every dollar will go to the victims and towards clean up,” Paisley, who made the first donation of $100,000, said in a Facebook Live video earlier today (6/29).
While the idea of a benefit concert has been bounced around, the singer admits that now is not the best time.
“Eventually, maybe, we’ll do a concert in the area, now is not the time for that. Now is the time to, all of us, whether you’re West Virginian or just a fan of mine or know a West Virginian or an American, if you have a dollar or two to spare, send it to the site.”
Paisley will be traveling back to his home state to fully grasp what needs to be done.
“I’ll be going up to West Virginia tomorrow to see first-hand some of what has happened and meet some of these people that will be working on this,” he said. “It’s very important to me that this is done right, that every dollar goes there and that we see what we can do for the state.”
According to The Weather Channel’s website, emergency management officials have claimed that more than 500 homes have been severely damaged or destroyed in what is being called the third deadliest flooding event on record. The flood has left 23 dead and thousands homeless.
