It’s practically any country artist’s dream to one day collaborate with a GRAMMY Award-winner in the studio. For Brandon Ray, he got to experience that moment while cutting his latest single.

During his time working on “Ends of the Earth,” Ray got a call from Ross Copperman to meet up and work on some new music together. Gladly accepting the invitation, Ray jumped at the opportunity even more so when he heard Keith Urban wanted to help out on the track as well. The rest was history for the three guys, especially Ray.

“It was insane. Just being a fan, hearing him on the radio and hearing his songs all the time, then seeing him in concert, then playing festivals where you’re on the same bill as him. I hadn’t met him until the day we recorded. The first thing he said when he walked in was, ‘Man, thank you so much for being here and doing this.’ I was like, ‘Why are you thanking me?’ That’s just the kind of guy he is. He’s just the sweetest, most genuine person. Then, when you start working on music, you truly see how much of a genius this guy is,” Ray told Sounds Like Nashville exclusively during a recent interview.

Ray didn’t just let Urban leave without grabbing some wisdom from one of his idols in the industry. Getting to know each other as friends and colleagues all at once, Urban bent Ray’s ear about being strong within his opinion and standing up for what he believes in, no matter what others may try to criticize Ray about.

“One of the first things that Keith said when we were in there recording for the first time. There was a part that I just wasn’t sure about. I asked his opinion, and he said, ‘Hey man, always speak up for yourself, because you’re the one who has to go and play that song every single night. You’re the one who’s putting your name on it, so you have to make sure you love it before you put it out for others to love it.’ That right there was just so true and incredible,” admitted Ray.

Fans can hear Urban come through on some of the background vocals on Ray’s latest single, “Ends of the Earth.”
