It took several days for Jason Aldean’s wife Brittany to sum up her feelings following the horrific Las Vegas shooting, but she finally found the strength to put her thoughts on paper and shared those words with the world on Wednesday (Oct. 4.) in a emotionally charged Instagram post.

Revealing that she was not with Aldean when Stephen Paddock opened fire on the crowd of 22,000 at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, Brittany recalled the horror she felt as the chaos ensued and thanked first responders for their bravery and resilience.

“It’s been hard to process what happened the other night… still feel like I’m in a daze,” the 29-year-old began. “First and foremost, THANK YOU to the first responders. It amazed me at the time and still continues to-these people completely put everyone else’s lives before theirs and we are all forever grateful. When the gunfire started, I was not with Jason, but with some friends in a tent closer to Mandalay. As you can imagine my first instinct was to run to him and his was the same.”

The two were soon reunited and as they feared for their lives, Brittany could only think of one thing: her unborn child.

“As we laid behind equipment onstage with some of our road family, bullets flying past… all I could think was ‘I never even got to hold my baby,’” she heartbreakingly wrote. “We all made sure the others we knew loved them and then ran for cover where we stayed for the next couple hours. (Not knowing if there were multiple shooters, where the bullets were coming from… NOTHING).”

“We were the lucky ones,” she added. “I can’t put into to words the pain and heartache we feel for the ones who are no longer with us. May God be with their families and friends during this horrendous time. Each and every one of you are and will forever be in our prayers.”

In wake of the tragedy, Aldean announced plans to cancel his upcoming shows scheduled for this coming weekend in Los Angeles, CA; San Diego, CA and Anaheim, CA.

“I hope everyone understands why we can’t play this weekend and I’m sorry if anyone is disappointed,” the singer shared in a statement.

Aldean is scheduled to return to the stage in Tulsa, Okla. on Thursday, Oct. 12.
