The aftermath of the Las Vegas shooting still weighs heavily on the minds of people around the world, including many of the performers that played the festival throughout the weekend. The news that the largest mass shooting in modern American history took place hours after they played is an impossible task to comprehend for many of the artists, including Brothers Osborne.

The popular duo was among the festival’s 2017 lineup, playing their set just two days before the shooting. During an appearance Tuesday morning (Oct. 3) on The Bobby Bones Show, the duo emotionally reminisced about the festival and the fans they’d recently performed for.

“When we finished, we were talking about how amazing of a crowd it was. There was so much love in the air and people were so free of worry and care and they’re just having the best time of their lives. Aside from everything that happened, it’s a crowd that we’ll never forget. Man, it’s hard…” said John, trailing off to wipe away his tears. “They’re family. Every person who’s ever come out to a show of ours, they feel like family to us, you know? We owe them everything.”

As they gathered themselves to perform a song called “While You Still Can,” John and his brother TJ explained that they wrote the tune with Travis Meadows and that it will appear on their upcoming sophomore record.

“…it’s a song that we thought was pretty fitting for the times,” shared TJ, before crooning the lyrics, “‘Cause everything you thought would last forever never lasts forever like you planned / Don’t let your now become a never / so take life by the hands while you still can.”

As they finished the song, John was still overcome by emotions, those of which were echoed by host Bobby Bones.

Before their time on the broadcast ended, John said, “We try to lead with love. Everything that we do, we want love to be first and we want love to be our compass and guide every decision that we make. Sometimes we try to pretend that we’re tougher than we really are, but at the end of the day, we just love everyone and we’re so grateful to do what we do. We couldn’t do it without all those people that were there in Las Vegas and everyone who shows up to our shows. And you’re right, we’re a country music community. You hear that a lot… a community because it’s what it feels like. We’re a family and we’ll do whatever we have to do. We’ll show up, we’ll play anything. Whatever we gotta do to make this better for anyone, we’ll do it.”

Bones and his team are also raising money for the victims of the Las Vegas shooting with their Love > Hate collection at The Shop Forward. A GoFundMe campaign has also been set up to raise funds for the victims.
