Not only does Carrie Underwood dedicate herself to her music career, but she also has created strong ties to encouraging young women in their pursuit of playing sports by donating back to teams who need support.

Teaming up with her brand, Calia by Carrie Underwood, and Dick’s Sporting Goods in the charitable endeavor, Underwood recently announced a grant of $100,000 from the Sports Matter initiative to be awarded to Houston’s Alpine Independent School District.

Benefitting both youth and high school girls’ sports, Underwood and Co. presented the school district the grant during a fitness meet-and-greet event in Houston. As someone who enjoys getting a good workout on, Underwood was pleased to be able to combine her love of being fit and helping others in one place.

“I am so honored to partner with The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation as we continue to give back to girls sports teams across the country,” said Underwood. “Through today’s donation, we aim to support the girls’ athletic programs in Houston, providing many girls with the opportunity to participate in sports.”

Through her initiative with Dick’s Sporting Goods, Underwood plans to donate a grand total of $500,000 to benefit girls’ sports teams and organizations. The first grant was given to sporting organizations in Underwood’s hometown of Checotah, Oklahoma, in which she went back and met a few young women to get to know how important sports are to them and the difference in makes in their lives for an inspirational promo.

Underwood will continue promoting her partnership of Calia by Carrie Underwood with Dick’s Sporting Goods by visiting and helping out more communities through the initiative. The country star will also be hitting more cities on her Storyteller Tour throughout the fall before heading down under to Australia with Keith Urban to finish out the year performing on his Ripcord Tour.
