Carrie Underwood & NFL Pay Homage to Football Greats With ‘The Champion’ Video

Carrie Underwood and the National Football League have just scored a game winning touchdown with the debut of their NFL-themed music video for “The Champion.”

The clip debuted just ahead of Super Bowl LII’s kick-off and features a number of former Super Bowl champions, including this game’s Tom Brady of the New England Patriots and Nick Foles of the Philadelphia Eagles. In addition to the two quarterbacks heading into Sunday’s game, the video spot also hosts many other Super Bowl champions, including Brett Farve, Hines Ward, among others.

Underwood recorded the song as a way to amp up football fans for the big game. Enlisting rapper Ludacris for a verse of the song, the Oklahoma native knew she was on to something when her hockey-playing husband Mike Fisher dug the tune.

“My husband loved it,” Underwood previously shared. “He would listen to it before playoff games. He was like ‘I want everyone to hear it!’ and I had to tell him, ‘You can’t do that. You can’t play it in the locker room. I’m sorry.’ But that was a good indicator that we were on the right track.”

Executive producer of “Sunday Night Football” Fred Gaudelli had no doubt that the tune would be the perfect anthem for any sports fanatic or athlete.

“I think it’s going to become a sports anthem,” he said. “It’s going to be one of those songs that you see cut to highlights for the next 25 years.”

“The Champion” will also be used as this year’s theme song for the Winter Olympics, which begin February 7.
