Carrie Underwood has come a long way since the curly-headed cutie took home the trophy as winner of season four of American Idol.

More than a decade ago, the country singer declared her crown and didn’t fall short of the expectations put upon her title. Since her whirlwind victory, Underwood earned dozens of awards including seven GRAMMYs, eight CMA Awards, 12 ACM Awards and ten Billboard Music Awards. She’s even starred in films and garnered a Golden Globe nomination, as well as been inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. Most recently, Underwood discovered she was in the 2017 class to go into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame back in her home state.

Emotionally so, Underwood took to social media to reflect how much her life has evolved over the past 12 years since appearing on the reality competition show. Noting that the whole experience since then has been like nothing she could have imagined, she is grateful for all of the opportunities presented because of her shining stage moment.

“12 years later and I’m still not sure how it all happened to me! 12 years ago today, my dreams came true and life has been a dream ever since! I am beyond blessed and so thankful! #AmericanIdol #TBT,” Underwood wrote to caption the throwback collage post on Instagram.

Even this past year, the country queen established her status with the huge success of her album, Storyteller, with huge hits such as “Church Bells,” “Dirty Laundry,” and “Smoke Break.”

Not only has Underwood accomplished a plethora of milestones in her career, she’s also won in her personal life being married to Nashville Predators captain Mike Fisher and starting a family with their little boy Isaiah.

Underwood is currently taking some time off to be with her family back home in Nashville while rooting on her husband as his team heads to the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
