Carrie Underwood Reveals Her Food and Fitness Secrets

During a recent trip to her hometown of Checotah, Oklahoma, Carrie Underwood sat down with NBC’s TODAY correspondent Jenna Bush Hager to chat about her fitness routine and spill a few of her diet secrets.

Sitting inside the gym of her alma mater, Underwood recalled growing up in the rural Oklahoma town and her days of playing outside, participating in Girl Scouts and playing sports, like softball and basketball.

“This is the only place in the world I can feel like I can turn off,” said of Checotah, where her parents still live.

When asked about fitness and working out, Underwood admitted that she loved it. “I love seeing progress,” she shared. “I feel better about myself because I feel like ‘oh my clothes fit me, that’s awesome.’ It doesn’t have to be spent in a gym. I’m lucky that I live in place where we’ve got a lot of hills around. My baby loves being outside, so I put him in a stroller and go.”

As for her diet, she still follows a “mostly vegan” one, but admits that she sometimes has an issue sticking to it. “Cheese is a problem,” she laughed.

She then took Jenna outside and gave her a short rundown of what her daily workout routine looks like and showcased the move that helps her get those famous legs.

While in town, Underwood, along with The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation and CALIA by Carrie Underwood, made time to give back to the local school district. The group surprised unsuspecting Checotah Middle School and High School female student-athletes during a summer practice to present a Sports Matter grant of $100,000 to the Checotah School District Girls Athletic Programs.

They will donate a total of $500,000 in Sports Matter grants to girls youth sports teams across the country.
