Country music fans proved the genre ranges farther than the city limits of Nashville as Carrie Underwood and Sam Hunt both took home awards from the 2017 Teen Choice Awards.

While neither Underwood nor Hunt were in attendance at the Los Angeles-based event, each was presented with the iconic surfboard trophy in their respective categories. Underwood snatched the honor of Choice Country Artist, while Hunt was recognized as the winner of Choice Country Song for “Body Like a Back Road.”

A number of country’s hottest stars were nominated within a few of the categories listed, from music to television to even digital platforms. Underwood beat out her competition of Blake Shelton, Florida Georgia Line, Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Bryan and Hunt himself for her winning position. Hunt topped songs such as Thomas Rhett and Maren Morris’ “Craving You,” Shelton’s “Every Time I Hear That Song,” Keith Urban and Underwood’s “The Fighter,” Florida Georgia Line and Backstreet Boys’ “God, Your Mama, and Me” and Brett Young’s “In Case You Didn’t Know.”

Although they didn’t prevail as the night’s winners, country was represented throughout the show with Florida Georgia Line showing up in the Choice Summer Group category, Hunt in the Choice Summer Tour category and Brett Eldredge in the Choice Snapchatter category.

The next big awards show that will honor just the heavyhitters coming straight out of Nashville will be the 51st Annual CMA Awards, hosted by Underwood and Brad Paisley. The show will take place on Wednesday, November 8.
