“It’s things like this where you get to use your voice for the greater good. It kinda makes it feel like there’s a bigger purpose,” Pope explained to SLN.

Over the past year, Cassadee Pope has come into her own as a country artist as she has found her voice in both her own music from her Summer EP and her success with her duet with Chris Young, “Think of You.” But rather than thriving off of the spotlight she’s earned, Pope is using her voice in order to help bring awareness to a cause she feels so strongly about: fighting cancer.

Months ago, it was announced that Pope would be joining Martina McBride and Co. on the Sarah Cannon Tour in support of Band Against Cancer. The artists would go on the road and perform shows just like any other tour, but would team up with the organization in order to benefit the Sarah Cannon Fund at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Be the Match, which is run by the National Marrow Donor Program. Pope felt called to be a part of such an important movement as she, like many others, is personally connected to the disease and wanted to use her career as a way to help others.

“I mean, I know everybody sadly has been touched with cancer whether them themselves or family members, friends, whoever,” Pope told Sounds Like Nashville during a phone interview. “Unfortunately, it’s becoming more common than ever. I lost one of my best friends last year to Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, so I definitely love that I get to be a part of this because bringing awareness to it and trying to help in any way I can by playing music is kind of a dream come true.”

While she totally understands that her opportunities as a well-known country singer come with a lot of exciting privileges, Pope feels the desire to use her music for good and signing on to go on the Sarah Cannon Tour was a no-brainer. To her, it meant she could use her passion in life to possibly save the lives of so many others.

“I mean, I’ve always said playing music is selfish because I have so much fun, but it’s things like this where you get to use your voice for the greater good. It kinda makes it feel like there’s a bigger purpose,” she explained.

Another unexpected yet awesome part about joining on to the Band Against Cancer initiative? Getting to head out on the road with McBride. Pope expressed her love for McBride’s music and how even growing up, she was someone that Pope greatly looked up to in music.

“I love Martina McBride, I’m a huge fan. I’ve covered her songs since I was a kid, so getting to do the tour with her is even more special,” Pope gushed.

The Sarah Cannon Tour with Band Against Cancer begins today, September 16, in Dallas, Texas. The tour will hit a few dates throughout the next few weeks and end with a big Nashville finale at the Grand Ole Opry on October 26.
