Charles Kelley Talks Baby, Album, & Grammy Nomination

It’s such an exciting time for Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley. The Georgia native is not only gearing up for the much-anticipated release of his solo album, The Driver, he’s also currently nominated for a Grammy and he’s expecting his his first child with his wife Cassie next month.

When Charles and Cassie revealed that they were expecting earlier this year, they also opened up about their struggle to conceive. Charles reflected on that time in their lives on Tuesday when he sat down with reporters to discuss the album, their baby, and the Grammy Awards.

“The parallels between this record and all the anxiety I had doing it and when I finally just let myself be free of it and just be proud of it and let it go and not put so much pressure, things started happening and started coming together,” the singer shared. “Same thing with trying to have a baby. We were so anxious about it, it had become such a stressful thing. My wife [was] praying every night about it and for it. The minute all the stress went away, it happened. It’s definitely an amazing moment and the Grammy nomination was just this piece of cake on the top right when I needed it. It was almost like God was like, ‘Alright, we’ll give you this. Don’t give up yet.'”

The Driver drops February 5 and The Grammys take place February 15. As for the baby, he’s due February 17, but Charles is hoping he might arrive a little late. “Don’t they usually say the first baby comes late? I hope so,” he said with a laugh.
