Rice doesn't watch football for the fun and games. He plans strategies for the teams and plays the coach role from his couch.

Chase Rice Gets Really Into Watching Football Games

Now that fall is here and football is back on television more nights out of the week than not, Chase Rice is going to have to schedule out time on the road to catch games of his favorite sport.

But for a former player like Rice himself, it’s not exactly relaxing to watch a football matchup in his spare time. He doesn’t just root for his favorite teams leisurely—it’s all about strategy and competition when Rice simply flips on whatever the game of the night is. He admits that he acts somewhat like a sideline coach, calling out what moves to make and what plays should be run.

“I’m sitting there watching a game, and I’m sitting there calling the plays that are going to happen before the plays actually happen. That was my biggest thing that I had in college. I was 230 pounds, I wasn’t the biggest linebacker, I wasn’t the fastest but I was pretty fast…speed, you know was my advantage, but my biggest advantage was my brain. I could sit there, I watched a lot of film, I put a lot of time into the game. I tried to know where the ball was going before anybody else did, and that’s why I became such a good player in college before I got hurt. I’m sitting there watching, and I can’t just watch a football game and have fun. I’m sitting there calling the plays, calling the defenses while I’m watching the game, and yelling at the coaches ‘don’t do it, don’t call a timeout right there.’ Or whatever I’m yelling…but, I’m very passionate about football. The only thing rivals music for me is football,” he explained recently.

While Rice isn’t changing his music career to one of sports anytime soon, he still likes to dig himself into the nitty gritty of the competition. Thankfully, he can apply that energy for his time out on the road for the Everybody We Know Does Tour this fall. The tour will continue throughout the rest of the year and will hit venues all across the country.
