After fighting for his life following a horrific car accident, Checotah police officer Justin Durrett has passed away due to the severity of his injuries.

News of Durrett’s accident reached the country music world by way of Carrie Underwood, who donated to the GoFundMe account posted online following the crash. Hoping to raise $20,000 to cover his medical costs and help the family recover in his days off work, Underwood kindly donated $10,000 to the cause under her married name and boosted up its total to $18,431 by Wednesday morning (2/28).

Sadly, Durrett didn’t make it through the battle of sustaining injuries such as a broken neck, bruised spine, head trauma and more. His death was confirmed in a social media post from his police department who asked for thoughts and prayers during this tough time for the Durrett family.

“On Monday February 26th Asst. Chief Durrett succumbed to his injuries after a courageous battle. Asst. Police Chief Justin Durrett is a 13-year veteran of the Checotah Police Department and is a loving father of two children and a loving son. Please keep Justin’s family, friends and Blue Line family in your thoughts and prayers,” the Facebook post read.

At this time, Underwood has not commented on the news of Durrett, but her donation lives on and still supports the officer’s family forever through the GoFundMe page.

Currently, Carrie Underwood is taking some time off to be with her family before returning back to the music scene.
