Chris Lane took some well-deserved time off from the road to focus on his next record, and wanted to unravel his journey in a project called Laps Around the Sun.

Keeping his sound fresh and influenced by outside sources in pop and rock, Lane will also hone in on the country elements of a live band and a more artistic approach compared to his last release. While he maintains his edgy element in the record, he tried to experiment with the instruments that made him a fan of country music and he hopes to reflect that in the new music.

“I’ve learned a lot,” Lane said in an interview with Billboard. “With my first record, I was trying to figure out exactly what kind of sound I wanted to have, and now I know. I know what I truly love and what kind of artist I want to be. My goal was to make sure anyone who hears this album finds a song they can relate to. I hope I accomplished that.”

Fans already heard a sneak preview of what to expect when Lane released his duet with Tori Kelly called “Take Back Home Girl.” That, among the other tracks on his Take Back Home EP, will be featured as a part of the official album’s tracklist. The singer also snagged a moment in the studio with Danielle Bradbery for a collaboration called “Without You.”

Lane’s upcoming album, Laps Around the Sun, will arrive on July 13. Those who pre-order the album now will receive the song, “Fishin’,” upon purchase.
