When Chris Stapleton found out he and his wife, Morgane, would be expanding their family by two in 2018, his first reaction wasn’t filled with tears but rather laughs.

The pair appeared on Today to talk to host Willie Geist about Stapleton’s huge year in both country music and his personal life. Revealing that their big announcement regarding their family left even him in disbelief, the singer talked about his different way of soaking up the news himself.

“I think I laughed for about 20 minutes straight when they told us. I was just shocked. I didn’t know what else to do. … I was in shock. Shocked is the only word,” Stapleton admitted on Today over the weekend.

His wife agreed with the reaction, claiming that her country music husband didn’t laugh at her but the idea that they’d be expecting two little ones on the way soon.

“It wasn’t a laugh, it was more like a giggle. He giggled for like 25 minutes,” said Morgane during the interview.

At this time, the couple still doesn’t know what the genders are of their bundles of joy but they set their hopes on a boy and a girl to get the best of both worlds. They’ll know soon enough, though, as their older children convinced the two that they need to find out the sexes before birth.

“I don’t want to find out but the kids want to find out so I think we’re gonna find out. I lost that fight,” Morgane joked. The Stapletons already have two children together, in which they haven’t told their kids’ names to the public to give them a sense of privacy from the spotlight.

Stapleton and his wife announced they were pregnant with twins on their 10th year anniversary at the end of October. Their due date is unknown at this time.
