Since their power-packed performance on the 2015 CMA Music Awards, Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake have been making sweet, sweet music together, much to the excitement of fans.

Most recently the two collaborated on the song “Say Something” from Timberlake’s latest album Man of the Woods, igniting a fire-storm of fans begging for a full-length collaborative project. The idea is something that Stapleton admits has crossed their minds, though the wheels aren’t in motion quite yet.

“I don’t know, we just have fun. It looks like the ‘Odd Couple’ to most people, but we have a lot of the same musical influences out of the old R&B and soul music and things like that. And we just enjoy hanging out,” Stapleton told Sounds Like Nashville and other media during CMA Fest.

“We don’t necessarily talk about whole records. There will always probably be music being made in that configuration, whether it’s writing or talking about music or playing music for each other,” he continued. “Those things are always going to happen as far as I’m concerned. I can’t speak for him, but we were talking about something earlier today. It’s just fun and we’re both in a stage of our life, I think, where we just want to have fun playing music, so that’s why it makes sense.”

While the two toy with the idea of more collaborations, Stapleton did admit that he’s busy preparing the follow-up to his companion albums, From A Room: Volume 1 and From A Room: Volume 2.

“I’m looking ahead to the prospect of making a new album. That’s about as far as I can go with it. I have written some new songs, but I still like old songs and I still got a sackful of them so I’m not particularly concerned with finding songs, but I [do] listen to other people’s songs,” he shared. “I don’t exactly know what’s going to happen. We’re gonna try to find a time and a space to do it, and the time and the space to do it will present itself and we’ll do it.”

While there’s no release date scheduled for Stapleton’s new project, fans can catch the singer/songwriter out on the road for his headlining All-American Road Show Tour, which runs through the start of November.
