Chris Stapleton, Little Big Town and More Honor Prince
Prince, who is best known for songs like "Purple Rain" and "When Doves Cry," passed away on Thursday, April 21 at the age of 57.
Since Prince’s untimely death, numerous stars have paid tribute to the icon with covers of his iconic songs.
On Friday, April 22, Little Big Town showcased their famous harmonies with an acoustic cover of “When Doves Cry.” They shared the video to Facebook, captioning “Prince. An American original. Thank you for the music and the memories. May you rest in peace.” “When Doves Cry” was the lead single from Prince’s 1984 Purple Rain record.
CMA and ACM Male Vocalist of the Year Chris Stapleton played the song “Nothing Compares 2 U” surrounded in purple lights during his April 23 show at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, CA. “We’re going to do this for a great musician we lost recently,” he said before his breathtaking performance. The song was written and composed by Prince for his side project The Family and made famous by Sinéad O’Connor.
Also on April 23, Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley performed “Purple Rain” at his show in Anaheim, CA. “Rocked out a little #purplerain last night in Anaheim! #ripprince,” he wrote on Facebook with the accompanying video.
Another tribute to the legendary singer included the Dixie Chicks, who also sang “Nothing Compares 2 U.” The group honored the legend during their April 22 show in Horsens, Denmark.

Prince passed away on Thursday, April 21 at age 57. Prince had been battling the flu for several months, having recently canceled several tour dates and been hospitalized following the emergency landing of his plane following a show. He was best known for songs “Purple Rain,” “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy” and “1999.”
